I am not free
After years of activists calling for justice, in 2012, Free Sara Kruzan became a national campaign, uniquely structured in honoring the leadership, voice, and decision making process of Sara herself. I am SJK was born as an organized mission on both west and east coasts, supported by Carrie D. Christie and Sufiyah Asia Yasmine, collaborating to raise awareness, surrounding Sara's plight as a victim of child-sex slavery sentenced to life without possibility of parole.

With the aide of several international supporters and a 2007 Human Rights Watch video, in 2011, Sara's case was commuted by CA's former Governor Schwarzenegger. In 2013, her sentence was reduced. Sara was released from CCWF, on Halloween, October 31, 2013.
Social media was a new phenomenon. We didn't have a large platform, but we paved it! We give thanks to all who placed calls, and sent letters to government officials, as well as to those who lent their platforms. We truly know the power of the people igniting, taking action, awakening our healing connection all over the globe! Our mindful movement offers, a sacred community engagement, as we reflect upon our journey of restorative, transformative justice, and of self-empowerment. |
Meet Sara Kruzan, a survivor of child-sex trafficking (and more), who was sentenced as a teenager to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole — for killing her trafficker in 1994. Through years of litigation, thanks to Perkins Coie and a viral video produced by the HRW, and the subsequent human rights campaign (I AM SJK), Sara was paroled from prison five years ago.
